Our campsite at Lake Wappapello State Park
Day 11 - We woke shortly after 7:00 AM and relaxed catching up on journaling until the sun could dry up all the heavy dew. We had to wait until 10:00 AM anyway because that is when the Park's Visitors Center opened that we wanted to see. We did not leave the Park until 11:30 AM. We headed south on Hwy 143 on reasonably easy roads then east on Hwy 34 to Hwy 67. Although Hwy 67 is being upgraded to a 4-lane highway and there was a lot of construction, most of the time we enjoyed wide, safe shoulders and the much easier hill grades of a major highway. We stopped for a lunch buffet at Greenville, MO. before continuing south on Hwy 67 to Hwy 172. Here the easier travel ended as we seemed to climb most of the 8 miles to Wappapello State Park. We encountered the steepest hill, since we owned the bike, just inside the Park. It was a monster, especially at the top, where is got even steeper and we had to walk our bike up it. That's the first hill we had to do that on this trip. We got a campsite at Asher Creek Campground before 4:30 PM and then took a swim in the lake. We had a nice relaxing evening again under clear skies and got to bed before 10:00 PM.
